Campfire waffle pudgy pie?!? I have grown up camping and I was always the one in charge of making the pudgy pies. As I’ve gotten older this hasn’t changed, but I’m getting more creative with my pudgy pies. We still love the traditional pudgy pie but we also like to change it up a little.
We were trying to think of something to make for breakfast that would be easy, not a lot of prep, easy clean up, and yummy. We found it! We get the fire going in the morning and pull out the pudgy pie iron. We make this for the busy mornings before we head out for the day or on the last morning before we start packing. Get the fire low but with some hot coals in the bottom, if you cook completely over the flames you run the risk of burning your waffles.
Ingredients:
Non Stick Cooking Spray
Frozen Belgium Waffles
Strawberries (or fruit of your choice, we have even used canned fruit)
Syrup/powdered sugar (your choice of waffle topping)
- Open the pie iron and spray the insides of the pie iron so the waffles don’t burn
- Place the waffles on the pie iron
3. Put your fruit of choice on the waffles and then place the second waffle on the top.
4. Cover with the other side of the pie iron and place over the fire. Continue to check every couple of minutes. Your waffles will not brown or toast but they will be warm and not have a soggy texture. They will have a slightly toasted texture to it.
Take out of the pie iron and give everyone their waffles. Everyone always gets excited to have waffles camping and not just eggs or cereal. The only things that need to be cleaned up after cooking is the pie iron, and if your utensils if you decide to not eat it like a waffle sandwich. Enjoy and Happy Camping!
