Sometimes our time in the sun is unplanned or for an extended time in our family. We are either outside during a fire or ems call that is unplanned and we didn’t have time to apply sunscreen. We live in Wisconsin so if we go on vacation in the winter it never quite matters how much sunscreen we use we always burn. Tim is also a red head so cutting our 6 acres can even give him sunburn if he forgets sunscreen. Just like everyone else the fun of being outside sometimes makes us forget to re-apply our sunscreen. Because of all these things we are constantly looking for new ways to get sunburn relief.

We put together this easy essential oil spray and it has helped minimize the sunburn side effects. We have found that if we use it as soon as we realize we got too much sun and use it 2-3 times a day that we don’t peal and, the irritation is to a minimum.

Ingredients:

1 oz Glass Spray Bottle

1 1/2 tsp Aloe

1/4 tsp Witch Hazel

5 Drops of Lavender Essential Oil

3 Drops of Peppermint Essential Oil

Fill Remainder of glass bottle with distilled water

The aloe will help with the redness, pain and aid in healing. Witch Hazel will also help with irritation and will lessen any itching. Lavender is a very soothing essential oil and will help with pain, and irritation. Peppermint will make your skin feel cooler, so you won’t have the “heat” feeling from your sunburn. Reminder to use high quality essential oils that you trust, low grade essential oils can potentially cause irritations. This is the minimal explanation for all of the ingredients, feel free to do more research if you would like more information specific to each ingredient. Sometimes a lot of information can become easily confusing, that is why I chose to explain the reasons for choosing what I did for this spray. Sometimes just knowing that it makes you feel better when you’re uncomfortable with sunburn is enough for some people.

Have fun in the sun, and wear sunscreen but if the sun gets the best of you, use this great homemade spray. We have a bottle at home, at our camper and in our luggage for vacations. What are your summer plans to get some sunshine?
